Who are we?

The Friends of Twin Islands Pond website was established to disseminate information and update Stonebridge Community’s neighbors about the current status of the pond. Twin Islands Pond is a serene, attractive body of water located in the Ann Arbor Stonebridge subdivision. Covering approximately 6 acres, it features two small islands that serve as a refuge for a diverse collection of wildlife, including swans, geese, muskrats, ducks, cranes, and others. The pond is surrounded by Stonebridge Estates houses, Stonebridge Twin Islands condominiums, and a large expanse of land adjacent to the Stonebridge Golf Course. Additionally, many residents of the Stonebridge Highpointe Neighborhood Association enjoy its beautiful view.

The issues:

Contrary to the opinions of the Stonebridge Homeowners Association (SCA), Twin Islands Pond is a common area enjoyed not only by surrounding homes but also by the community at large.

Maintaining the beauty and health of ponds in Michigan, like any contained body of water, requires regular attention and maintenance. Unattended ponds can quickly become plagued by algae and vegetation growth, resulting in unsightliness, unattractiveness, unpleasant odors and potentially a health issue for nearby residents. For many years, the SCA had contracted with The Pond Guy to address the algae problem through regular chemical treatments.

However, at the conclusion of the 2021 season, the SCA quietly suspended future treatments of Twin Islands Pond without notifying homeowners or concerned Stonebridge residents. By the middle of the 2022 season, it became evident that treatments were not taking place, leading to a buildup of algae to unsightly and potentially unsafe levels.

Actions:

A series of communications ensued between residents and the SCA board regarding this issue. Please refer to the References -> Timeline menu for a timeline and email threads to date.
